COVID -19 Update - April 24, 2020
June Events Postponed
Regrettably, June events for the Tennessee Senior Olympics will be postponed. As we have expressed, your health and safety is of the utmost importance to us. We have monitored this situation since March and have held out hope, like many of you, but know that this is the right decision. This includes all events in Williamson County as well as golf in Fairfield Glade.
The decision was actually helped along as Williamson County Parks and Recreation has cancelled all organized programming and non-essential gatherings through the end of June . This includes youth sports, adult sports, scheduled activities, facility rentals, and special events such as ours. Heatherhurst Golf Club is observing social distancing measures such as one person per cart and other rules, which would delay tournament time past reasonable limits.
Pickleball is still scheduled for August 7-9 at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Deadline extended to June 15.
Questions and Answers:
1) What are the new dates?
Although we have been working on a “plan “B” for a few weeks, there are still many, many more details to work out. Venues are closed and cannot confirm availability. In addition, we want to make sure we will have enough staff on hand to run events before making final decisions.
We do know this. The TSO will look different this year. Finding enough venues that can host all 20 sports in a one-week period will be impossible. However, because of the wonderful relationships we have built over the years, we truly do have a head start on new ideas and schedules that we hope to share soon. We know that you all will be so grateful just to get out and play!
2) Will the current deadline be extended? Yes. A new deadline(s) will be set once we have secured dates and venues. The pickleball deadline is now June 15.
3) I have registered. What happens to my registration fee if the new dates do not work for me? A refund will be issued minus a processing fee. There are fees that we cannot recover, such as computer program usage and credit card fees. Thank you for your understanding.
If you have physically mailed in an entry form and check those have not been processed. They will be held until we know more.
4) Will registration stay open?
YES. The board voted to keep our early bird fee of $60 in place for the entire registration period. There will NOT be a $10 increase.

5) What will Nationals do about qualifying if certain events cannot be held?
Their staff is being extremely diligent about staying on top of this. A recent newsletter stated:
“The NSGA is already analyzing potential impacts on State Senior Games and the qualifying process for the National Senior Games in 2021. We are reviewing several potential scenarios and considering many factors. If the situation requires that changes are made to the current qualification process, NSGA will continue regular communications with our State Senior Games to share information to athletes”.

During these very strange days when you might feel isolated and lonely it is more important than ever to reach out to each other. One of our favorite parts about coming together each summer is the chance to catch up, laugh, and hug each other. So many friendships have been born of this event, both of athletes and volunteers. Those friendships and relationships are truly one of the most important aspects of life.
So reach out to your TSO friends- make a call, reminisce about past Games and compare notes about ideas to stay in shape. Or leave us a message if you need someone to talk to. We are happy to call back and if we get overwhelmed, we will reach out to our board and others to help make those calls back.
We look forward to seeing you all soon!
